The southern coast of NSW is often overlooked for its northern counterpart. But if you’re after a an escape that’s within easy driving distance of Sydney, you don’t have to look much further than the pretty towns of Gerrigong and Berry that will charm you with their hidden gems and wow you with their spectacular coastline. The drive itself is beautiful, through lush national park and undulating hills and you’re not short on places to stop along the way.

STAY: DOVECOTE

"Situated on 150 acres of oceanfront farmland, Dovecote has two properties to cater for both intimate getaway or groups. Here you can cosy up in front of a floating gyrofocus fireplace with unparalleled vistas of the coast, float away in the heated swimming pool and cook up a feast using local produce in the state of the art kitchen. There’s deep tubs that overlook the private estate and its the perfect place to set up base to explore the region."

EAT

Milkwood Bakery

"Known for its famous egg and bacon rolls, this artisan bakery has flakey croissants, indulgent lamingtons and crusty bread for all your baked good needs."

The Blue Swimmer

"If you’re craving fresh and moorish food, The Blue Swimmer is one of the area’s best lunch spots. Situated on a hill close by to Gerroa’s beach, The Blue Swimmer is buzzing with locals and travellers alike. We love the crumbed fish tacos and smoothies. Save room for the haloumi donuts stuff with house made jams!"

Queen Street Eatery

"A relaxed bistro-style restaurant that serves up classics like Steak Frites, hitting the spot on a wintery getaway. They also make great coffee."

Berry Donut Van

"There aren’t many who don’t know where Berry’s Donut Van is. Skip the queues and go early morning and watch crispy hot cinnamon donuts fry up to order. Be warned, these are addictive."

DO

Hyams Beach

"Who would have thought the white squeaky sands and crystal clear waters that one would expect far up north were down south in New South Wales. Hyams Beach looks like a tropical paradise and is known as one of the best beaches in Australia. "

Gerringong to Kiama Coastal Walk

"If you love long walks, this one is fabulous and great for all fitness levels. Particular nice in the cooler months with misty views revealing beautiful cliff faces.!"
