Meet The Brief: The Spring Racing Edition

Stylist Renee Enright decodes each of the racing day’s traditions, and shows us her picks for this year’s carnival.

“This year we can expect to see a lot of colour, which is exciting. Look to bold vibrant hues of blue, pink and red, and then also pastels: think lilac purples and soft powder blues. Hats will be bigger and better, while silk scarves will be very popular – there’ll be lots of oversized bows and topknots in hair rather than the traditional headwear of years passed.”

“A favourite for racegoers, Derby Day sees us adhering to the black and white dress code; opt for chic, structured pieces that talk to the tradition of the day. I went for classic and understated for this race-day look, I love the elegance of this two-piece set and the knit fabrication gives support and flatters in all the right places. A simple boater, on trend and with a cute black and white trim, makes the perfect Derby Day accessory.”

“I love that you can take a few more fashion risks on Cup Day, be a little bolder and have fun with your fashion here. It was love at first sight for me when I saw this striped linen two-piece. Not only is it fun and playful but it’s bold, bright and super-flattering with a high-waisted, wide-leg pant. Paired perfectly with a simple straw hat, this look is sure to stand out in all the right ways.”

“Ladies Day is all about femininity and elegance: think polka dots, pretty pastels and florals. I adore twin sets, and love this polka dot wrap top and pant so much that I had to add a matching headscarf. The up-do is perfect for a girl’s day out.”

“Comfort is key here. Less restrictions around headwear and dress codes gives way to a more relaxed way of styling. Jumpsuits are a perfect option for such an event, I’ve gone with a bold bright colour with a simple silhouette to match my personal style and added a printed bag for a bit of fun.”
